THE AUTHOR/EDITOR

Your name, date of birth, address, and nationality (required by the British Library and the Library of Congress.)

Present and previous positions, with dates and a C.V. if available (otherwise give a brief account of qualifications and previous publications.)

Your e-mail address

Please give the names and addresses of at least two individuals whom you would regard as suitably qualified to comment on your proposal.

 

SYNOPSIS

Aims What does the book do and say? What material does it cover and what lines of argument will be put forward? How will it be original?

Outline Likely title and sub-title of the book; probable length; contents list and chapter headings with short descriptions.
Proportion of copyright material and the proportion of illustrations, graphs and tables.
Do you plan to include a forward, index and bibliography?

Organisation Description and reasons for your organisation and coverage.

Genesis Was this plan developed from your own teaching or research? Please give details if it is based on your own course.
How much of the typescript is complete and when do you expect to finish the final manuscript.

THE MARKET

Readership Who is the book aimed at? What and where would the main market be? What level of ability will it assume of the reader?
Please identify any trade, professional, and/or library market for your book in as much detail as possible.

Overseas Are there any overseas markets that might be particularly receptive to your book? Do you think there is a market for the book in translation? If so, please state likely language.

Courses Is the book intended as a main text, supplementary reading, monograph, reference or general trade book? On which taught courses might it be recommended?

Competition What other books are there in the area of your proposal? How do they compare? Is there a clear competitor?
